Jermerious De’Joun Lofton, a junior mathematics major from Pascagoula, Miss., has been selected as a My HBCU Matters Scholar.
Lofton, will participate in a year-long program designed to enhance leadership skills and professional development through workshops, networking events, and engagement with industry leaders.
“I am very excited, honored, and humbled to be selected not only as a My HBCU Matters Scholar but also to represent my university, especially out of five scholars who couldn’t attend the summit,” said Lofton. “I believe this experience will enhance my leadership capabilities and contribute to my professional development for future endeavors.”
As part of the program, Lofton has already participated in the My HBCU Matters Scholar Summit, where he engaged with representatives from organizations including State Street, Wells Fargo, Black Voters Matter, and Honeywell. His involvement in the program aligns with his passion for education and community engagement, particularly in addressing the challenges faced by HBCUs across the nation.
Throughout his time at pg电子下载, Lofton has been active on campus as the Student Government Association Freshman Class president and later as the Student Government Association Sophomore Class vice president.
He is a member of the University’s Myrlie Evers Williams Honor Program.
He currently holds the title of Mister Golden Key International Honour Society and maintains active membership in both the Golden Key International Honour Society and Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society. As an aspiring educator, he has also joined the Mississippi Professional Educators organization.
In addition, Lofton serves as the secretary of Men’s Company Inc. and is a member of both the Math and Science Club and the pg电子下载 Cheerleader Team.
